Introducing the Sunday Adventure Series

Well hello there blog friends! Long time no. . . write? Post? It doesn’t matter, what does matter is my sincere apology for not posting sooner. It’s funny, I set out to write a specific post and the second that blank white box pops up a million topics run through my mind. I should remember this as a potential cure for future blog block. But a lot of those topics need some time to cook before they would end up as more than just a non-sensical ramble. Because I never ramble. . .

Anyway, back to my originial plan. Welcome to the very first Sunday Adventure post. You’re in luck, today is a 2 for 1 special! Before we jump in to recapping the first two Sundays of this series, let me explain where these posts are coming from. I work 50+ hours a week. I have my normal 9-5 grind and then I nanny/babysit for two different families which usually occurs between Friday night and Saturday night. Thus my Sunday’s are sacred. I try to keep them as free as possible because it’s really the only full day a week I have.

So Sunday Adventures were born. It pretty much entails Hadley, Abbey and I doing something random, fun, uncomfortable, adventurous or all of the above. We plan a full day of fun.

Newport, RI

The first Sunday Adventure took us to Newport, RI. Newport is always a highlight in the summer time. If you’ve never been, it’s a beach town with some of Rhode Island’s best beaches and an awesome downtown area with lots of shops and restaurants and there’s always events going on. It’s a pretty big tourist area in the summer so crowds, parking and beach traffic can be a bit chaotic but we parked for free with ease thanks to a connection Abbey had and since we went in the early afternoon we didn’t hit too much traffic.

We shopped around for about and hour or so, most of which was spent in my own personal heaven, Yankee Candle, and then decided if we wanted to grab dinner we should probably do it before the dinner rush. We decided on Brick Alley Pub which is a Newport staple with pretty delicious food. I got the Caprese sandwich which is one of my favorite meals. IMG_1382blog

Since we ate dinner on the early side there was stillplenty of daylight left for more shopping and walking. Here are a couple more pictures of our first Sunday Adventure.

Crazy Burger and The Umbrella Factory

This next one was our 2nd Sunday Adventure and it’s safe to say this time we definitely ventured out of our comfort zones. Hadley, Abbey and I drove south for about as far as we could go while still staying within the Rhode Island borders. Our first stop was in Narraganset for Crazy Burger.

Crazy Burger is a casual restaurant that caters to all foodies. It offers vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options as well as more than enough for us carnivores. Crazy Burger has actually been featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives on the Food Network. Despite this claim to fame, I found it rather average, as did Hadley who didn’t enjoy her meal much. If you don’t know already, I have the palette of a 6 year old so my opinion is pretty tainted when it comes to these things. Hadley and Abbey on the other hand are amateur foodies and both agreed for the most part.

Next stop was Charlestown, RI for The Umbrella Factory. This was Hadley and I’s first visit and boy were we shocked. The Umbrella Factory is a sort of compound that resembles a flea market. But this was the mecca of all crunchy granola flea markets. You really have to experience this for yourself and I’ll have to let the pictures speak for themselves but just to get you going in the right direction here a few things we saw. Incense, a lot of it, a bamboo forest, a hummingbird like bee, a petting zoo with the most bizarre looking birds I’ve ever seen, and a lot of linen. Observe. . .

Well there you have it, the first part in the Sunday Adventure Series. Keep a look out for the next installment.
